A Multi - Level Approach to Interlingual MT : De ningthe Interface between Representational LanguagesBonnie
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper describes a multi-level design, i.e., a non-uniform approach to interlingual machine translation (MT), in which distinct representational languages are used for diierent types of knowledge. We demonstrate that a linguistically-motivated \division of labor" across multiple representation levels has not complicated, but rather has readily facilitated, the identiication and construction of systematic relations at the interface between each level. Our approach assumes an interlingua derived from the lexical semantics and predicate decomposition approaches of Jackendoo (1983; 1990) and Levin and Rappaport-Hovav (1995a; 1995b). We describe a model of interpretation and representation of natural language sentences which has been implemented as part of an interlingual MT system called PRINCITRAN.

The Automatic Creation of Lexical Entries for a Multilingual MT System
In this paper, we describe a method of extracting information from an on-line resource for the consmaction of lexical entries for a multi-lingual, interlingual MT system (ULTRA). We have been able to automatically generate lexical entries for interlingual concepts corresponding to nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. Although several features of these entries continue to be supplied manually w...

متن کاملKeynote Address Some notes on the state of the art: Where are we now in MT: what works and what doesn’t? And the role of MT as an international collaborative activity
The paper examines briefly the impact of the “statistical turn” in machine translation (MT) R&D in the last decade, and particularly the way in which it has made large scale language resources (lexicons, text corpora etc.) more important than ever before and reinforced the role of evaluation in the development of the field. But resources mean, almost by definition, co-operation between groups a...
متن کاملA TAYLOR SERIES APPROACH FOR SOLVING LINEAR FRACTIONAL DECENTRALIZED BI-LEVEL MULTI-OBJECTIVE DECISION-MAKING UNDER FUZZINESS
This paper presents a Taylor series approach for solving linear fractional de-centralized bi-level multi-objective decision-making (LFDBL-MODM) problems with asingle decision maker at the upper level and multiple decision makers at the lower level. In the proposed approach, the membership functions associated with each objective(s) ofthe level(s) of LFDBL-MODM are transformed by using a Taylor s...
متن کاملRaising the Interlingual Ceiling with Multilingual Text Generation
In a typical interlingual machine translation (MT) system, the tasks of text planning and content selection are not explicitly performed. Rather, they are assumed to be implicit in the interlingual representation derived in the source language analysis phase. This simplifies the task of target language generation, but greatly restricts the flexibility of the resulting text. Recent MT systems ha...
